Hope Chinese School is the largest Chinese school system in the Greater Washintong DC area. We teach Pu-Tong-Hua and Simplified Characters, and we use Pin-Yin in our teaching. Besides language class, we also offer a lot of other classes related to Chinese culture, history, and art. Currently there are 4000+ students from Maryland, Virginia, and DC enrolled in six campuses.

第十届中国文化节 The 10th Chinese Culture Festival

Celebrating 5000 Years of Chinese Culture and Heritage Chinatown, H and 7th Streets, N.W., Washington , D.C. The 10th Chinese Culture Festival will be held in Chinatown , Washington , D.C. on Sunday, September 28, 2008. Since 1999, the Greater Washington Chinese-American Community, with the support of over 100 local Chinese-American organizations, has been organizing and hosting the annual Chinese Culture Festival in Washington, D.C. The primary purpose of the annual Festival is to showcase Chinese-American culture, to further enrich American cultural life by promoting cultural diversity, and to foster harmony and friendship among people with different cultural background. Over the past 9 years, the annual Festival has increasingly attracted a greater and more diverse audience, and has therefore become one of the largest ethnic cultural events in our nation's Capital. In each of the past 9 years, the Festival either had a different format and setting, or was held in a different neighborhood in Washington . Since 1999, the annual festival had been held in the National Mall near the U.S. Capitol, near the White House, at Freedom Plaza , and at Chinatown in 2003 and 2004. For the last two years, the annual Festival moved indoors with a 2-hour cultural gala performance. This year, the Organizing Committee has decided to celebrate a community day in Chinatown by moving the 10th Festival back there. We are pleased that the Chinatown Community Cultural Center has agreed to become a co-host of this event. For the first time, we will have both indoor and outdoor activities simultaneously. This will hopefully further attract an even larger audience. The program and timeliness for the 2008 Chinese Culture Festival: 11:00 a.m. Opening of Chinese Food Festival and cultural exhibition tents to the public ( H Street, N.W. , between 7th and 8th Streets) 11:00 a.m. Opening of China Travel Festival photos and information booth at Chinatown Community Cultural Center , 616 H Street, NW, Suite 201 , Washington , DC 20001 1:00 p.m. Assembling of parade groups (I Street, N.W., between 6th and 7th Streets) 2:00 p.m. Cultural parade with 2008 Miss Chinese-American, Washington, DC, dragon and lion dances, Ballou High School Band, and kung fu groups 3:00 p.m. Opening ceremony ( H Street, N.W. , between 6th and 7th Streets) 3:30 p.m. Cultural performances ( H Street, N.W. , between 6th and 7th Streets) 4:30 p.m. Closing of Festival activities Please plan to come to Chinatown on September 28 to meet the 2008 Miss Chinese American Washington, DC; taste delicious Chinese food; see beautiful Chinese art crafts; see the parade with a huge dragon and lion dances; watch a Chinese kung fu demo; take an instant lesson in learning the Chinese language; get your name translated into Chinese free of charge; or find out more about visiting China and what to see there; and much more.
