Flu shots at HCS-FX on Sunday Nov 2, 2008
Event: Flu shots for teachers, staff, parents and students
Cost: $17 / shot
Time: 1:00PM - 2:30PM ET

Due to limited supply of vaccines, Dr. Cheng will offer the service on a first-come-first-serve basis until supply lasts. Please bring cash as credit cards or personal checks may not be accepted.

Building Entrance Limited to Front Door and Door #7 (Back Entrance) - 10/17/08
Due to security considerations, the host school decided to allow us to use only Door #1 (the Front Door) and Door #2 (Back Entrance) on Sundays. All other doors including the side doors will be closed permanently. For emergency purposes, the closed doors can mostly be opened from inside but that may trigger emergency alarms. No parents should use these closed doors and please report any violations to school front desk.

Fall 2008 Registration and Reminder of School Rules - 9/17/2008
1. School Order and Rules
Please strictly abide by FCPS/school rules and maintain classroom order. No running in the hallway, no heelies, no food and drinks inside classrooms and hallways. Cafeteria is open and food can be consumed there. Any students who is cited for violation of school rules more than twice or the same offense more than once, the school will consider discipline action including dismissal from school.
2. Textbook Sales Please contact
Suzan Jiao (703-385-2783 or jiaozhan@hotmail.com) before Sunday if you need to buy textbooks so she can bring the textbooks you need to school.

3. Registration and Tuition Refund Policy
Please note that tuitions are fully refundable within the first two weeks and 50% refundable within the third and fourth week. Registration fees are non-refundable at anytime per school policy.
4. Enforcement of Tuition Payment
Class tuition is due in two weeks once registration status is changed to “registered”. Students on waiting list will be automatically upgraded to “registered” status once placement is available. The registration team will enforce this policy and drop your child’s class registration if tuition is not received in two weeks. This policy is put in place to make place available for other students who are on the waiting list.
5. Ma Liping Class Placement Test
There will be a placement test for all new Ma Liping class students at 2nd grade or higher, who have not attended last year’s Ma Liping pilot program. Per our school’s general guidance for Ma Liping classes, the school reserves the right to limit Ma Liping class enrollment to those who past the test only.

惊悉四川汶川县及周边地区发生强烈地震，地震撼动大半个中国，为中国三十年来之罕见，万余名无辜百姓命丧天灾，并造成巨大经济损失。尤其是通过互联网看到灾区的学校房倒屋塌，那么多可爱的孩子葬身瓦砾，永远地告别了心爱的学校，永远失去了上学的机会。消息传来，希望中文学校六个校区的近四千名师生员工为之流泪，为之震惊。在此，我们谨向灾区同胞，向那些可爱的孩子，以及失去儿女的学生家长致以最诚挚的慰问。
一方有难，八方支援。灾区人民的安危时刻牵动我们希望中文学校四千多名师生员工的心。为此，学校理事会向全体教师，学生，家长及义工倡议：让我们立即行动起来，共同向灾区人民，向那些无辜的孩子伸出援手，为抗震救灾工作，为灾区重建家园，为让那些可爱的孩子能够早日重返课堂做出我们应有的贡献。

New Ma Liping Chinese Classes Ready for Registration - 8/24/2007
Dear Parents: Thanks to the team effort, in particular Dinny and Chen Xueqin, we have completed the preparation of offering additional Ma Liping classes (马力平教材试点班). Please see this Parental Notice & General Guideline
document regarding the Ma Liping text book and class offering. The new classes are ready for registration.

New Family/Student Registration
If you are new to our school, you need to create your account, enter you family profile information, and wait for approval before you can register classes online. New accounts are usually approved in 1-2 days. Please click the “New User?” link on the side panel to create your account. Once your account is set up, you can view the classes the school offers and register classes.
New fammilies also are welcome to visit the school on Sunday afternoon.
Please note the online system is read-only on Sundays. You can only register or change classes online on other days.

Please Do Not Use Host School's GYM & Any Facility Without Explicit Authorization
Dear Parents: Please do not use our host school's Gym or any other facility without explicit authorization from our school official. We are notified by our host school and FCPS facilities authority that some of our students/parents were using the Gym next to the Dance Room to play basket ball and ping pong there. We have not rented those facilities. Please stop using them.

Joining the Parent Email List/Changing Email Address
The parent e-mail list is used by the school to send important notices and for parents to exchange information of common interests (please see Email Rule on the Web site). For new comers, after your accounts are created and approved by the school, the HCS-FX registration team will add you to the email list periodically, with the email and profile information.
If you haven’t received any email from the list, then we missed you or your initial email address was invalid. Please do the following to update your email and add you to the email list.
- Login to the online registration system and update the email address. This ensures that your data is updated and you will not be dropped from the list during a future update.
- Send a request to hcsfx-support@hopechineseschool.org with the following information:
a) Your old email address to delete, if you need to change the email address.
b) You new email address as in the registration system to add and your name, family ID, and classes attending.
Note that you must send a request to change the email address in the parent email list. Changing it in your profile does not automatically change it in the email list.

Leaving the Parent Email List
You can delete your self from the email list by sending an email to: listserv@twlist.aol.com with the following message in text: signoff hcs-fx
If your mail box is full or there are repeated rejections by your email system, your email address will be dropped from the list.

Dear HCS-FX Parents,
The coming Sunday will be another relatively quiet day. I have the following to share.
1. No Complaints Eight Weeks in a Row
I am happy to report that we are complaints free eight weeks in a row. It is clear that this has not gone unnoticed by our host school. Last Sunday, the host school Principal Mr. Ponti was introduced to me by host school faculty supervisor. Mr. Ponti expressed to me his appreciation of our efforts and thanked us for our campus’ contribution and donation to help improve the host school environment. I want to thank all our parents who participated in patrolling the hallways and our teachers and volunteers, in particular, Dinny, our dean of school affairs who takes the leadership to make this happen, and Peter Zou, who led the parent patrollig team. It now looks feasible that we maintain complaints free record to the end of this year, and I look forward to achieving that.
2. Events to Welcome President Hu Jintao to Visit DC
For parents who would like to participate in the events organized by local Chinese community to welcome the Chinese President Hu Jintao visiting the DC,, please see separate emails from Dinny for details of time and place of the events.
3. Advanced Notice for School Christmas Party
As part of the HCS tradition, the school will organize the Annual Christmas Party and Performance Show on the last school day of this semester, December 21. This will be an opportunity to showcase the achievements of our students in learning Chinese language, culture and heritage and to show our appreciation to our teachers. Please respond to Dinny’s email requesting for help to organizing the event, and pay particular attention to emails from Mingjie Wang on the specifics of the program preparations. I hope all parents can take advantage of this event to have some fun and to encourage and help your child to participate.
